> UPDATE: Version 0.1.4 of #Librem Chat has been released and contains zero trackers.

Good news, but @purism need to be more careful about catching privacy vulnerabilities coming in from upstream before #Forbes journalists do!?! This does raise some questions though, about why #Riot has 3 trackers installed in the first place (from #Matomo, gOgle, and Microsoft), and whether they're removed from the @fdroidorg version.

Eben Moglen in his keynote at #republica:

"The federation of all services is not an inconceivable idea....This is the intended goal of the little gesture I call #FreedomBox: the manufacture of simple, inexpensive, self-administrating servers that we can hold in the palm of our hands and distribute throughout the world like apple seeds."

#Firefox without Librefox crawls like it's carrying a backpack full of weapons-grade Naquadah :drake_dislike:

But Firefox + #LibreFox feels like holy shit my internet connection speed has doubled but I know it hasn't so what the fuck was wrong with this browser before? :drake_like:

Since many of you still run into issues building Telephant on Ubuntu/Debian, I've decided to build a (mostly) static executable you should be able to run on a bunch of recent Linux distros.

Tested on Arch & Ubuntu 19.04.

Find it here:

Trying to create proper packages for a few distros next.

Eduardo Galeano: I don't believe in charity. I believe in solidarity. Charity is so vertical. It goes from the top to the bottom. Solidarity is horizontal. It respects the other person. I have a lot to learn from other people.

There was a talk given about the project to the Bremen Freifunk group yesterday, which apparently was well received. A workshop may follow.

GNU/Social will support ActivityPub via my plugin before Mastodon and Pleroma deprecate OStatus.

I look forward to helping modernize the GS code base this summer 😄

<<I do sort of love the fact that people think a species that can't manage a perfect 4-billion-year old self-sustaining solar-powered biosphere surrounded by its own self-generated forcefield are gonna somehow be able to build a viable space habitat. >>

Good lord, some of the comments on this thread. Like this one.

How... how do people think like this.

This is, at the root of it, what keeps the myth of space colonisation alive. The idea that if we just put 'the right people', by which they mean rich people, into a tin can and keep everyone else, by which they mean poor people, out, suddenly a miracle occurs.

This belief is why we got austerity and oligarchy..

WHY DO TECH PEOPLE THINK BILLIONAIRES ARE PROBLEM FREE ZONES???!!

Staying in Mumbai for a few days. The local taxis here are fairly priced and more convenient than the gig economy cab aggregator apps. No waiting, no location data harvesting, no surge pricing, paying by cash etc. 😇

The taxi unions of Mumbai have collectively launched their own app called Aamchi Drive, but it doesn't seem very popular or even required here. There are so many black and yellow taxis that you can just raise your hand to hail one passing by.

Have to try a double-decker city bus!

Airports are increasingly becoming a hub of personal data collection. When opting out of these data collection programs is nearly impossible and air travel is nearly unavoidable, that's a problem. eff.org/deeplinks/2019/04/skip

Yes, @mozilla makes mistakes (same as the rest of us humans). And yes, their last one was ugly. But, still, they're the only ones in the browser business trying to do the right thing. So I'll keep using Firefox, Focus, Send, and the rest of cool software they produce.

When adding your FreedomBox as a device in other Syncthing peers, set its address like "tcp://njoseph.me" instead of "dynamic". This allows your Syncthing peers to directly connect to your FreedomBox avoiding the need for relays. It also allows for fast on-demand syncing if you don't want to keep Syncthing running all the time on your mobile devices.
